Welcome to Vita Birth Midwifery Services
My name is Becka English, and I offer quality midwifery care to pregnant mothers and their families, in Redding, CA and the surrounding areas. I am a California Licensed Midwife (LM), as well as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).
Pregnancy and birth are a special and sacred time in a woman and her family’s life. Midwives provide unique individualized care for women during pregnancy and birth.
Midwives offer an alternative to typical hospital birth, which can often be filled with fear and uncertainty. Midwives treat birth as a natural occurrence in a woman’s life and respect the processes surrounding it.
As a midwife I strive to stand back and let the natural process of birth happen, but to also be prepared to intervene should a complication arise.
I desire to let mothers take responsibility for how they will birth their baby. I strive to use my skills and training to support them in their decisions, and equip them to have a safe and satisfying birth.
The magazine Midwifery Today states it this way; “Birth is a time to feel secure and safe. When a woman births at home she is in her own nest and is surrounded by colors, textures, lighting and sounds she loves. Her own bed, where she finds solace in rest and sleep, is available for birthing. She is in the place she will soon share with her baby. What better place is there to relax in the total way she needs to in order to give way to the birth process?”

Birth works best when it is left to unfold on its own. Interrupting the process with drugs or medication will hinder the mother’s ability to allow her body to progress.
There are numerous studies on homebirth, and the safety of home birth. For more information you can read the following articles:

“Homebirth is not for every woman. It takes a high degree of commitment to health and learning and a high level of responsibility to go against the majority who believe hospital births are better. Talk to women who have given birth at home, in birthing centers, in birthing rooms and in hospital delivery rooms. Discuss your concerns with your physician and your midwife. “ Is Homebirth for You? 6 Myths About Childbirth Exposed Editor: Janet Tipton
